Victim identified in domestic homicide case

Hoover Police have identified the victim of the domestic homicide that occurred on the morning of Jan. 5 at Cypress Gardens Apartments. Hoover resident Victoria Jeanetta Morrow, 34, was found dead in an upstairs bedroom of her apartment.

Hoover Police received a 911 call on Jan. 5 at 12:13 p.m. from a friend of a resident at the apartment complex. The 19-year-old caller reported that her friend's mother was dead inside the apartment at 3124 Carousel Court. 

The caller also reported that she and her 18-year-old friend had both been beaten and bound by the same suspect, Jeffery Dewayne Mixon. Officers found the 18-year-old and 19-year-old victims in the parking lot. Both of their hands and feet had been bound with duct tape, but both were able to escape after the suspect fled the scene. The 19-year-old caller was also sexually assaulted. 

Preliminary indications are that Morrow was assaulted by the suspect with his hands and a knife. Morrow was pronounced dead on the scene by Hoover Fire Department paramedics.

An AMBER alert was issued following the suspect's flight because he had left the crime scene with his 5-year-old daughter. He and Morrow had previously had disputes over visitation agreements. 

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 5, Mixon surrendered himself at the Dallas County (Alabama) Jail. His daughter was found unharmed with relatives in the Selma area. Mixon was transferred to the Hoover City Jail at around 8 p.m. He will be formally charged with murder on Tuesday.

Hoover Police said that Mixon will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail on Tuesday night.
