Police have arrested a suspect for a robbery committed in September 2012 after DNA taken from tobacco spit left at the crime scene resulted in a positive match.

The suspect allegedly robbed a Subway on John Hawkins Parkway at gunpoint during the 2012 robbery. Two employees were forced to take the cash drawer to the back office, while being followed by the suspect. The suspect threatened to shoot both employees if they did not cooperate fully.

The suspect took $164 before fleeing in an unknown vehicle. The victims advised officers that the suspect twice spat tobacco into a trash can in the back office. Hoover Police officers collected the samples and submitted them for analysis to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. A DNA profile was obtained, but no match was available at the time. Last week, detectives were notified of a positive march for the sample that was submitted. The suspect was identified and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.

Karl Julian Rambo, Jr., 25, Huntsville surrendered himself to Hoover detectives on March 30. He was booked into the city jail and later transferred to Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer. He is currently being held on a $20,000 bond.
