Suspect with 23 cloned credit cards arrested

A suspect who was arrested on June 21 has been formally charged with using stolen or cloned credit cards, according to a Hoover Police press release.

The suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Cuban National Yordis Rodriguez-Martinez, was arrested after Walmart employees recognized him as someone known for using stolen credit cards. After arriving to the scene, an officer arrested him and discovered 23 cloned cards in his possession.

Investigation showed the stolen cards had identities of multiple victims, and the information was stolen through the use of gas pump “skimming” devices. Hoover police warn these skimming devices are frequently placed on ATMs and are placed more frequently on gas pumps.

An arrest warrant on the charge of trafficking in stolen identities was obtained for Rodriguez-Martinez on June 23. Bond is set at $500,000. The suspect was transferred from Hoover City Jail to Jefferson County Jail that night.
