Shooting suspect’s bond set at $200,000

A suspect has been formally charged with the June 29 shooting at The Cliffs at Rocky Ridge Apartments on Rocky Ridge Road.

Eric Leman Ashley Jr., 19, has been charged with robbery in the first degree and attempted murder. Bond for both charges is set at $200,000.

Officers responded to the report of multiple gunshots at The Cliffs at Rocky Ridge Apartments on June 29 around 3:23 p.m. Witnesses reported that an injured individual was driven away before police arrived.

A gunshot victim was later located at Medical West Hospital in Bessemer. The 19-year-old male had been shot in the right hand after going to the apartment complex with two friends. An altercation occurred near the 1300 building in the complex when the victim was shot.

Detectives identified the suspect and obtained warrants. Ashley was located by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. He was in the 2600 block of 6th Street Northwest in Center Point.

Ashley was taken into custody and initially held in Hoover City Jail. He will be transferred to Jefferson County Jail today.
