Survey ranks Hoover city schools as No. 2 Alabama system for teachers

A new survey lists Hoover City Schools as the No. 2 Alabama public school system for teachers to work at, just below Homewood City Schools.

The survey was completed by Niche.com, a website that does research designed to help Americans make informed decisions.

Three other Birmingham-area school systems were in the Top 10: Vestavia Hills City Schools at No. 3, Mountain Brook City Schools at No. 4, and Trussville City Schools at No. 6.

In a motivational pep talk to the Hoover School District’s nearly 1,900 employees prior to the 2015-16 school, Murphy challenged employees  to not be satisfied at being one of the state’s top school systems. 

The Niche rankings that found Hoover City Schools ranked second in the state motivated Murphy even more.

“There is only one problem with being No. 2 and that is No. 1 is in front of you,” the superintendent said. “Hoover City Schools is a first-class place to work with some of the finest educators in the nation. Hoover City Schools deserve a top ranking, and we will continue to support school personnel and promote the Hoover standard of excellence. Since healthy competition is productive ... look out Homewood City Schools. “

A recent report found that Hoover has the most nationally certified teachers in Alabama. 

Hoover City Schools received a grade of "A Plus" in Overall Experience, Administration Policy and Health and Safety, and an "A" in Resources and Facilities.

Niche’s The Best Places to Teach ranking assesses the quality, support and compensation a district provides to its teachers at schools nationwide. It uses data sourced from various government and public data sets, Niche’s own proprietary data and 4.6 million opinion-based survey responses across a variety of topics from 287,606 current students, recent alumni and parents.

A high ranking in places to teach generally indicates that:

Teachers work in a safe, well-resourced schools and are compensated appropriately for their work;

The district is invested in its teachers and provides a good environment for teaching and learning;

Teachers are invested in the district and the students and work to ensure the best outcomes for students.

Niche’s survey final rankings gave grades to 12,412 school districts across the country.
