An apparent ruptured water line in the Polo Trace subdivision in Hoover Monday night caused a large geyser to spray water high into the air, flooding the street, a resident reports.

The geyser is at the corner of Polo Downs and Huntington Abbey and has flooded the bottom of Huntington Abbey, resident Kay Witt said.

“They have been milling and resurfacing the roads in Polo Trace. Undoubtedly, they went too deep,” Witt said.

The hole in the road increased dramatically between 11 p.m. and midnight, she said. Numerous police and fire vehicles were on the scene to monitor the situation, still waiting on a Birmingham Water Works crew to arrive about 1 a.m., Witt said.

“It is a lot of water,” she said.
