Sept. 5, 8 a.m.

An 8K will be weaving in and out of Ross Bridge neighborhoods on Sept. 5. The Ross Bridge 8K supports Alabama Teen Challenge, a 50-year old program that works to help individuals cope with drug and alcohol addiction, depression, anxiety and eating disorders through Christianity.

“We’ve been helping people out for over 50 years, and to keep the [program] price minimum for people who need help, we rely on help from the community,” said volunteer Rachel Roberts.

In addition to the race, the event includes a health expo, sponsored by St. Vincent’s Health System. The health expo continues throughout the day and is open to runners and their supporters.

Last year the race drew 600-700 participants, Roberts said, and there is a chance for even more participants this year. The trail for the race weaves through six Ross Bridge neighborhoods and covers historical areas and landmarks, including Ross Bridge.

Awards will be given to the top-three finishers in each age group, and the top male and female runners will also receive an award. Registration is $25 per runner, and there are five sponsorship options ranging from $150-$5,000. For more information, visit the event’s page on active.com.
