Residents targeted in apartment shooting left out information, Hoover police say

Hoover police are investigating an apartment shooting from early Thursday morning and say the targeted residents left out information when reporting the incident to police.

Police received a call about shots fired at The Park at Wakefield Apartments on Tyler Road on Thursday around 12:45 a.m. A unit in the 807 building had multiple bullet holes in the window, according to police, and residents of that unit told officers there were two adults and a juvenile in the apartment when shots were fired. No injuries were reported.

But “the residents who were targeted in this crime failed to mention that two individuals fled before police arrival,” Capt. Gregg Rector said. “There’s obviously a lot more to this situation than what we were told.”

Later Thursday, detectives learned a 22-year-old male and his girlfriend were also in the apartment when the shooting occurred, Rector said.

“Our officers are very familiar with the 22-year-old who fled and others associated with him,” Rector said.

More bullet holes were found in an adjacent apartment, and none of the occupants were injured. Police report the first apartment was likely the target of the shooting because shots were fired from the parking lot in front of the building.

Residents reported hearing a vehicle drive off after the shooting, but no description is available. Officers and crime scene investigators have gathered evidence but do not have suspects at this time.
