Taking the Galleria from the top down

Thirty-eight people will have the opportunity to rappel the Galleria Tower this month.

The Conquer the Tower event on June 7 is raising money to benefit health and wellness in Birmingham through Baptist Health Systems.

“This is the first of a kind event to be in Birmingham,” said Marcia Twitty of the Baptist Health Foundation. “We would love to get some people involved.”

For a $1,000 donation, an individual can rappel down one of Hoover’s tallest landmarks. Companies and organizations can also band together to "Toss Your Boss" and have him or her rappel the tower.

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable and "movable" clothes, such as jeans/pants and sneakers.

Over the Edge USA will set up the building as an industrial worksite to comply with federal and state OSHA Fall Protection Standards and Laws, and trained and certified industrial rope specialists will assist those who rappel.
