Prince of Peace Church to hold back-to-school health fair, backpack giveaway

Prince of Peace Catholic Church, AIDS Alabama and the La Jefa 98.3 FM radio station are holding a back-to-school health fair and backpack giveaway this Saturday at the church.

They plan to give away 700 backpacks with school supplies and provide free health screenings for low-income children and their families. People who participate in the health screenings will receive a coupon for a free kids meal from Chick-fil-A, according to a press release from the Alabama Latino AIDS Coalition. There also will be pizza, cookies, games and activities for children.

Bilingual staff will be available to assist people who don’t speak English or have trouble with English.

The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the church at 4650 Preserve Parkway.
