Police expect to obtain arrest warrants for a 29-year-old man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and killing her unborn child.

Police responded to a report of an assault on Larkspur Drive Tuesday around 6:35 p.m. The victim was a 28-year-old female who appeared to have significant injuries and was found walking near the roadway.

She was treated on the scene and transported to UAB Hospital by a Fire Department Rescue unit. The victim told officers she was about seven months pregnant, according to the report. Detectives were later informed the unborn baby did not survive.

The victim reportedly identified her attacker as her ex-boyfriend, Christopher Ammons Kemp. Kemp was apprehended after police identified him as a suspect. He was taken into custody in the Center Point area and was transported to Hoover City Jail. Police expect to obtain arrest warrants for Kemp on Wednesday.
