Sunday night, April 26 at 11:15 p.m. officers responded to a multi-vehicle accident on I-459 southbound at Alabama Highway 150. The chain of events began when a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier lost control, struck the outside concrete barrier wall and came to rest partially in the far right-hand lane of traffic. The driver and passenger exited the vehicle and went to the shoulder of the interstate to call 911.

A 2006 Honda Accord then struck the disabled Cavalier, coming to rest near the inside median wall of the interstate. The driver of the Chevrolet Cavalier then attempted to run across the lanes of traffic to check on the driver of the Honda Accord. He was then struck by a third vehicle, a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Debris from this third impact also struck a second pedestrian, who had stopped to assist others involved in the accident.

All lanes of I-459 southbound were reopened by 2:54 a.m. this morning. Hoover Police Traffic investigators are working to reconstruct the accident scene, document the chain of events and determine its cause.
