UPDATE: Motorcycle accident victim identified

An accident involving a tractor trailer and a motorcycle resulted in the death of a 21-year-old off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputy. He was on his way to work. Hoover police identified the victim as Phillip Leigh "Trey" Adams Thursday morning.

Hoover police and fire departments responded to the accident on I-65 northbound near I-459 Wednesday at 5:25 p.m. Adams was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer, a 22-year-old male from Spring Hill, Florida, was uninjured in the accident.

The deputy started as a civilian employee at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and was recently appointed to deputy sheriff, said Chief Deputy Randy Christian. His mother is also a Sergeant with the office.

"They are a wonderful family dedicated to serving this community. They are also our family. Our hearts are broken and our prayers are with the family, friends and obviously with his Sheriff’s Office family," Christian said. "I know this community will pray for comfort also as we come to grips with losing one so young and with so much promise. The affection, condolences and good wishes coming from all over have been a great comfort to us and I’m sure to his family."

Hoover PD sent its condolences to Adams' family and his family at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Hoover police traffic division is working to reconstruct the accident to determine the cause of the collision.
