A 22-year-old Montevallo man has been charged with robbery in connection with a robbery of the Moe’s Southwest Grill in the Village at Lee Branch shopping center Sunday night.

Hoover police said a man wearing a ski mask and armed with a handgun held the manager at gunpoint and took an undetermined amount of cash from the safe and cash drawer at 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

The robber went out the back door and escaped in an unknown vehicle, but crime scene investigators quickly determined that a former employee was responsible for the robbery, police Capt. Gregg Rector said in a news release today.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 22-year-old Dunston Kirk McKenzie Hamilton Jr. on Tuesday, and Montevallo police and Shelby County deputies arrested Hamilton at a residence in Montevallo Tuesday night, Rector said.

Hamilton was taken to the Shelby County Jail on a first-degree robbery charge with a $60,000 bond.
