Meeting on Trace Crossings industrial land rezoning canceled
A meeting that had been scheduled for this Sunday, Nov. 6, to discuss USS Corp.’s request to rezone two large pieces of property in the Trace Crossings community has been canceled.
USS Corp. was set to meet at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium with residents in Trace Crossings and other nearby communities that were concerned about the rezoning, but the company has not yet come up with revised plans that it is ready to present to residents, said Hoover planning consultant Bob House, who set up the meeting.
That means the rezoning case will not be heard at the Nov. 14 meeting of the Hoover Planning and Zoning Commission, House said. USS Corp. will set up a meeting with residents once it has revised plans and before the matter comes back to the zoning board, House said.
The original request from USS Corp. was to change the Trace Crossings zoning plan so that vacant property now zoned for restricted industrial use could only be used as commercial or office space.
The land in question is in two locations. One area is at the intersection of Brock’s Gap Parkway and South Shades Crest Road (on both sides of South Shades Crest Road), and the other is along Stadium Trace Parkway, directly across from the Hoover Met.
A resident of the Willow Lakes community off South Shades Crest Road spoke in favor of the proposed changes, saying they might increase property values. But many residents came out against the changes, saying they don’t want to see general commercial development on land that close to their homes.
