Mayor Gary Ivey first delivered the 2014 State of the City Address at the Hoover Chamber of Commerce Monthly Luncheon in December.

Ivey began his address by congratulating the Hoover High School Buccaneers football team on their recent state championship. He reflected on a successful year in Hoover with events such as the Hoover Hay Ride and the Christmas Tree Lighting having a record turnout. He also stated the City ended the year with a balanced budget.

Looking ahead, Ivey mentioned several upcoming city projects. The U.S. 31 road widening project is scheduled to begin in April. Ivey also said the City is expecting to receive more grant money for sidewalk expansions and improvements.

New businesses opening in the Hoover area include the restaurant Steak 'n Shake and Schaeffer Eye Center. In addition, a freestanding ER is slated to open June 2015 directly across John Hawkins Parkway from the entrance to The Grove shopping center.

"This is a great city to live, work and raise a family," Ivey said. "We are looking forward to exciting events ahead in Hoover this year."
