Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey to give state-of-the-city address Thursday

Hoover Mayor Gary Ivey is scheduled to give his 2015 state-of-the-city address at Thursday’s monthly meeting of the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce.

The luncheon is scheduled for noon at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham — The Wynfrey Hotel, but networking will begin at 11:15 a.m.

The cost is $20 for people with reservations, and Monday, Dec. 14, is the deadline to make reservations. The cost to attend without reservations is $22, with admission only if space is available.

Reservations can be made online on the chamber website or by calling the chamber at 988-5672 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday.

Ivey has been Hoover’s mayor since Sept. 30, 2011, when he was appointed by the City Council to replace Tony Petelos, who took a job as Jefferson County’s first professional county manager.

Ivey also served eight years on Hoover’s Planning and Zoning Commission and was elected to the Hoover City Council and made its president in 2004. He was re-elected to the council without opposition in 2008 and also was unopposed for the mayor’s job in 2012.

He said last week he plans to run for re-election in 2016.
