Hoover High P.E. teacher arrested on charge of harassment of 14-year-old girl

A physical education teacher from Hoover High School was arrested Thursday after being charged with harassment against a 14-year-old student in her P.E. class.

Hoover police said an altercation took place at the school on Jan. 27. According to the student and witnesses, the teacher, 45-year-old Lori McCombs, was upset that the student was not getting “dressed out” fast enough for P.E. class, police said in a news release.

“The teacher grabbed the student by the wrist and pulled her from the locker room into a hallway,” the news release said. “The altercation left noticeable red marks on the child’s arm. The student notified a parent that afternoon and school officials the following day.”

Hoover police detectives thoroughly investigated the case and presented it to a city magistrate Thursday, who signed the warrant for a misdemeanor harassment charge.

Alabama law defines harassment as when a person “strikes, shoves, kicks or otherwise touches a person or subjects him or her to physical contact.”

McCombs surrendered at the Hoover Jail at 9 p.m. Thursday and was released after posting a $500 bond. Her first court appearance is scheduled for May 11 in Hoover Municipal Court.
