The Hoover Fire Fighters Association Local 4035 endorsed Gary Ivey for re-election as mayor of Hoover.

The group, founded in 2000 and made up of current and retired firefighters, came together in a press conference Thursday, July 7, to announce their support for Ivey over former Hoover Fire Marshal Frank Brocato. This is the Hoover Fire Fighters Association’s first mayoral endorsement.

Lee Kilgore, vice president of the union, cited Ivey’s success in leading Hoover through the recession as a reason for re-election. He noted that no firefighters were laid off during the recession, and furthermore, no city officials were laid off.

“He has a proven track record that he’s going to be a leader for public safety,” Kilgore said. “He’s always been there for us when we need it.”

Ivey said support from the men and women of the Hoover Fire Fighters Association is especially meaningful to him because they know both candidates better than anyone. He said he will continue to provide funding and support for the Hoover Fire Department in an effort to retain Hoover's excellent public safety and quality of life.

“Proper funding for our Fire Department and public safety must remain a top priority,” Ivey said. “That was a commitment I made when I became mayor, and I hope this endorsement shows that I’ve kept my promise.”
