Hoover City Schools considers potential rezoning

To accommodate the continual growth of student enrollment, Hoover City Schools is opening up the possibility for rezoning. 

When the system started in 1989, enrollment was at about 5,000 students. Now enrollment in Hoover is about 14,000 students.

"With the continued expectation of growth in Hoover, it becomes necessary to adjust student school assignment boundaries in order to help the district maintain the position of providing the highest possible level of learning opportunities for all students over the long-term," said Superintendent Andy Craig in an an email interview.

Craig said the Board of Education is currently opening discussions with stakeholders regarding potential adjustments to student school assignment boundaries. These changes will allow Hoover City Schools to better align existing classroom capacity with expected growth patterns.

Hoover City Schools is only in the conceptual and developmental stage with this process, Craig said. Additional discussions are planned before any proposal is presented to the Board of Education.
