Hoover City Council received no applications for school board vacancy as of March 18

As of March 18, there have been no applicants for a pending vacancy on the Hoover Board of Education.

But Hoover city officials expect that to change before the deadline for applications set for 5 p.m. Thursday, March 26.

"I wouldn't be surprised if we see a last-minute rush of applications," said Hoover City Council President Jack Wright. "Some candidates may be reluctant to put their name out there right now."

The opening is for the seat currently held by Hoover Board of Education President Donna Frazier, who is stepping down effective June 1. Hoover City Clerk Margie Handley says based on the past, the city would have normally gotten one or two applicants by now.

"I'm not sure why they are so slow in responding this time," she said of the school board opening which was announced at the Hoover City Council meeting on March 9.

Wright said he expects the Hoover City Council to start reviewing school board applications by the first week of April. The council has set a goal to select Frazier's replacement by late April. The new school board member won't take office until June 1, he said.

Handley said Hoover Board of Education applications can be downloaded off the city website, hooveralabama.org. Completed applications must be submitted to the city clerk's office in person with an individual photo ID, she said.

Application deadline is Thursday, March 26.
