The Hoover City Council is accepting applications for an opening on the city's school board, officials announced at tonight’s City Council meeting.

The council will be accepting applications for three weeks until 5 p.m. on Monday, March 23, City Council President Jack Wright said. The council has set a goal to make the appointment by its second meeting in April (April 20).

Also at tonight’s meeting, Wright congratulated Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis on being honored last week by the Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama organization as its “Crime Stopper of The Year.”

“I always knew that we had the best crime stopper here in Hoover and now the world knows that,” Wright said, pointing at Derzis who stood in the back of the council chambers.

Derzis then waved as he received a round of claps from the mayor, council members and attendees at the council meeting.

“I was pleased to be able to represent the great officers of the City of Hoover for all of the work they do fighting crime," Chief Derzis said in an interview after the meeting.
