Hoover board discusses litigation, superintendent search

The Hoover Board of Education met at a called board meeting Feb. 23 to discuss a litigation issue.

After about two and half hours of discussion, board president Donna Frazier said the situation is complicated.

“This is trying to avoid litigation,” Frazier said. “That is what this was about. It’s just a hard, hard, hard decision that the board had to make.”

Although the issue is not about an individual person, Frazier said the board might find themselves in a situation if they do not release information that was requested by a community member. She also added that while the board is handling this issue, its true focus is on the superintendent search.

The superintendent position has been posted, and Frazier said The Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB) indicated that the board will not hear anything from them until April 14. At that time, five candidates for the position will be presented to the board.

“Really and truly, I have not heard a name,” Frazier said. “Not one single person has contacted me…No one has tried to send a resume my way or anything like that.”

If a candidate does contact any of the board members individually, Frazier said they will get that person into contact with AASB to allow the process to happen as intended.

The next regular board of education meeting will be March 9 at 5:30 p.m.
