Hoover Council approves transit agreement
The Hoover City Council approved a new transit agreement with the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority at its Dec. 15 meeting.
The transit services agreement requires the Transit Authority to provide 1,191 service hours at a cost $63,933.88 or $53.68 per service hour. Council member Jack Wright commented that $53.68 an hour was “pretty good money” before the council unanimously approved the agreement.
A public hearing was also scheduled to consider the request of the US Steel Corporation, represented by Nimrod Long & Associates, Inc. US Steel is requesting the conditional use for a park to be located at 420 Renaissance Drive. The owner of the property is US Steel Corporation, and the property is currently zoned as a Planned Single Family District.
The council also,
- Proclaimed Dec. 15 as Ashley DeRamus Day in Hoover in honor of the Ashley DeRamus Foundation, and all the things DeRamus does for Downs Syndrome and disabled persons.
- Proclaimed support of UAB and UAB Football and asked for the continuation of the football program.
- Appointed Dr. Lott to Hoover’s Medical Clinic Board.
- Cancelled the work session on Jan. 1 due to New Year’s holiday and moved the regular meeting from Jan. 19 to Jan. 20 due to Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
- Revoked and re-awarded a bid for law enforcement supply to Ballistic Vests/Carrier Plates the .
- Established new checking account at Regions Bank for payment of property and casualty claims expenses. The resolution also authorized Alternative Service Concepts, LLC to act as agent of the city and individuals with said company to as check signors on the account.
- Authorized the mayor to execute agreement with Kimberly Richardson Consulting, LLC for the purpose of providing contract-based grants management assistance services regarding the City’s CDBG Program.
- Executed an Operative IQ Licensing Agreement with Bound Tree Medical, LLC to provide mobile inventory software for emergency medical operations.
- Authorized Mayor to execute a Master Services Agreement and License Order Sheet with TestDay Corporation for municipal court software.
- Accepted the deed from McGill Crossings Acquisitions, LLC, for property described as Lot 2 of The Cove at McGill Crossings. The property is about eight acres and council member Gene Smith suggested using the area for a playground.
- Approved an ABC special retail liquor license for the Hyatt Place Birmingham Inverness at 4686 U.S. 280 East. This is a change in ownership on a previously approved site.
- Approved an ABC restaurant retail liquor license for On Tap Sports Café at 3340 Galleria Circle. This is a change in ownership at the former La Paz location..
- Adopted the 2015 International Codes, 2014 National Electric Code and Alabama Energy and Residential Code by reference, with proposed modifications.
- Set public hearing for Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. to consider the following Jonathan Belcher and NSH Corporation d/b/a Signature Homes’ request to rezone about 17 acres adjacent to Kirkman Preserve. This property would be rezoned as a residential development district for 35 medium density homes. This property is located at 2005 Kirkman Drive and is owned by NSH Corporation.
