UPDATE: Hoover police reported the schools were taken off of lockdown at 2 p.m. Lt. Chuck McDonald said the suspects are not in custody, but police believe they do not pose a threat to the schools or the students or are out of the area.

Two Hoover schools were placed on code yellow lockdown this afternoon as a precaution after two men were seen leaving the scene of a burglary and have yet to be found.

A burglary was reported in the Carisbrooke area, and two male suspects were seeing leaving on foot, so both Gwin Elementary and Simmons Middle schools were placed on lockdown, police said at 1:35 p.m.

Officers are in the area looking for the suspects.

Police ask anyone in the area to be cautious and call 911 or 822-5300 if they see anything suspicious.
