Green Valley Elementary hosting 50th anniversary celebration this weekend
In place of its annual Fall Festival, Green Valley Elementary is hosting a 50th Anniversary Homecoming on Oct. 12.
According to the school’s website, Principal Jeff Singer has been engaging faculty, staff and parent groups to make the 50th Anniversary Homecoming a success.
“The green and growing vines extending from Green Valley Elementary throughout the community are far-reaching. There have been a few times when cars have pulled up to the building, and drivers have shared stories of when they were students here at Green Valley,” Singer said in a release on the site. “Many of our parents were students in this very building. Several members of the Hoover City Schools family began their educational careers at Green Valley.”
Green Valley’s current site is an outgrowth of the old Patton Chapel Elementary School. The first part of the present school building was built in 1963 and featured only six schoolrooms. Additions were built in 1964, 1967, 1970 and 1972.
On Oct. 12, visitors can expect fun for all ages including games, inflatables, a silent auction, live music and rides. Desserts, face painting and caricatures will be available for purchase. Admission to the celebration, which will run from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., is $5 with children 3 and under free.
