Ruptured gas line leads to five-home evacuation in Bluff Park

Five homes in Bluff Park have been evacuated after a gas line was ruptured by a utility crew Friday.

Hoover Fire Department Executive Officer Rusty Lowe said the line was on 200 Cambo Terrace. Authorities have evacuated one home on that street and four homes on Avanti Lane, he said.

“Alabama Gas [Alagasco] is on the scene, and they’re working to rectify the situation,” Lowe said.

It could take several hours to fix the issue with a high-pressure gas line, and Lowe said no one is being allowed into the area at this time.

“We feel right now that’s the safest thing,” he said.

That area is a sort of cut-through for residents, so this might cause a slight disruption to traffic, Lowe said. However, he doesn't expect it to be a huge issue.

The Hoover Fire Department has crews on standby and on the scene, and people will be allowed to return to the area after Alagasco and the Fire Department say it's safe, he said.
