Fried Green Tomato's, a restaurant specializing in southern food, held their ribbon cutting on Tuesday, July 22. The restaurant is located at 1615 Montgomery Highway in Hoover.

Fried Green Tomato's Owner Jim Dolan is also the owner of the famous Irondale Cafe, which opened in 1928. He said the idea behind Fried Green Tomato's is serving classic meat and three dishes in a casual atmosphere.

"You see the fast, casual concept a lot with Mexican, burgers, things like that but not usually with met and threes," Dolan said. "We focus on local cooking and serving it to you in 30 seconds or less."

The restaurant's menu is written on a chalkboard and Dolan says they sometimes change it mid-day. Items include Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Fried Chicken Livers, Bon Secour Shrimp Creole and Country Fried Steak. Diners can also choose from an assortment of sides including collard greens, black eyed peas and of course, fried green tomatoes.
