Election update: Aug 21
Hoover’s city election is fast approaching.
Voters go to the polls Tuesday to make their choice for Hoover mayor and seven Hoover City Council seats.
Here’s the latest happenings related to the election:
- About 350-400 people attended an Aug. 16 election forum at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham — The Wynfrey Hotel, during which all three mayoral candidates and the 15 people seeking council seats got a chance to state their case and answer questions. The event was captured on video and is available through a link on the Hoover Sun website here and broken into two videos on the Hoover Sun Facebook page.
- A false fire alarm at the election forum apparently was the work of a prankster.
- Cherry and Bart Starr submitted a letter to the editor in support of one of the mayoral candidates.
- Former Hoover chamber president Dan Ellis seeks City Council Place 5
- Riverchase resident Arnold Singer vies for Hoover City Council Place 3
Other important information:
Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23. There are 13 polling places in Hoover. The Hoover City Clerk’s Office mailed out postcards to registered voters, indicating where they are to vote. The last day to register to vote was Aug. 8. Photo identification is required at the polls. Voters with questions can call the clerk’s office at 444-7500.

A runoff election, should it be required, will be held Oct. 4. Elected officials will take office Nov. 7.
