Domestic assault suspect arrested

On Monday, May 18 at 10:22 p.m., a witness called 911 and reported that a female was being assaulted on the shoulder of Interstate 459, just south of Highway 31. Responding officers witnessed the female victim lying on the ground, with a male subject on top, physically striking her. The male suspect attempted to flee on foot but was immediately captured after a brief struggle.

The assault occurred after the couple argued while traveling on the interstate and then pulled over onto the shoulder. The female was attacked after she ran from the vehicle, and was then caught by the suspect. She was choked, punched in the face and received several puncture wounds inflicted by an automobile key being used as a weapon. The 41-year-old victim was transported to UAB West Emergency Room and treated for her injuries.

The male suspect was arrested on the scene and transported to the Hoover City Jail. A formal arrest warrant was obtained yesterday at the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, Bessemer Division. He is charged as follows:

Ben Deandre Harvey, 28, Hueytown

Harvey was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer last night.
