Two men still at large after chase of burglary suspects leads to car crash, school lockdowns

Multiple Hoover schools were placed on lockdown Monday as police searched for burglary suspects in the area.

At approximately 11:50 a.m. Monday, a resident on Tyler Circle in The Park at Wakefield Apartments in Bluff Park came home and discovered four suspects had broken into his apartment, according to police. One of the men fled on foot and was later captured by a Hoover police officer.

The other three suspects left the scene in a blue 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis, according to police. The victim pursued the suspects in his own vehicle until the suspects crashed into a utility pole near 392 Shades Crest Road, police said.

The three suspects left on foot, and one hid in the woods. That suspect was apprehended, and two suspects remain at large. Police believe those suspects fled the area, Hoover Capt. Gregg Rector said.

The two apprehended suspects are 18 and 19 years old and are being processed at the Hoover Jail. Their names and mugshots will be released when formal arrest warrants are obtained.

“This does not appear to be a random burglary,” Rector said in a press release. “The victim is an acquaintance of at least one of the suspects.”
