Council approves wastewater treatment services deal, honors sports team titles
The Hoover City Council, during its Monday, May 18 meeting, authorized Mayor Gary Ivey to sign an agreement to provide sewage treatment services for about 300 homes through its Inverness Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Hoover City Council President Jack Wright said the agreement with Living Water Utilities LLC will provide substantial revenue for the city and help protect the environment by eliminating waste flowing into the Cahaba River. According to the wastewater treatment agreement, Living Water Utilities LLC currently owns and manages the Caldwell Mill Water Reclamation System, which discharged an average 44,000 gallons of wastewater per day in 2014 into the Cahaba River.
Under the agreement, Living Water Utilities will get to connect its Caldwell Mill Sewage Collection System to Hoover’s city-owned Inverness Waste Water Treatment plant.
Wright said taking over the treatment will generate substantial revenue for the city.
“They will pay us a $150,000 fee annually,” he said. “It should produce an increase in revenue, about $80,000 to $100,000 a month, for the city. We have the excess capacity so the cost to the city is practically zero.”
Wright said the Cahaba River Society and Alabama Department of Environmental Management had both urged the city to take over the facility’s treatment services “because we’re meeting clean water restrictions.”
“We are raising revenue so it’s a good deal for the city,” Wright said.

The Hoover City Council approved a proclamation thanking retiring SEC Commissioner Mike Slive for his contributions to metro Birmingham and the state of Alabama.
The Council presented proclamations to six Hoover High School sports teams for winning 7A Alabama State titles - the Girls Golf Team, the Girls Indoor Track Team, the Girls Outdoor Track Team, the Boys Outdoor Track Team, the Hoover Bucs Football Team for winning its third straight championship and 11th state title overall; and the Hoover Boys Basketball Team for winning its first state title.
