City attorney recommends council continue rezoning case
The city attorney for Hoover has recommended the city council continue a case on the March 7 agenda involving the rezoning of 273 acres along Interstate 459, said City Clerk Margie Handley.
If the case is continued, no decision will be made at the March 7 meeting. Instead the plan will be discussed at a future meeting.
The land has been zoned for apartments since 1984, said Hoover planning consultant Bob House, speaking on behalf of the council, but land use patterns have changed.
The proposed plan would rezone about 253 acres for commercial use and about 20 acres next to the Paradise Acres community for single-family residential use.
Land owners, including representatives for U.S. Steel, have voiced opposition to the rezoning.
The Hoover Planning and Zoning Commission voted in favor of the rezoning on Feb. 8, but it needs approve from the Hoover City Council to take effect.
