Hoover Police have arrested 30-year-old Cody Allen Pike for fatally shooting another man in what was originally falsely reported as a burglary.

Hoover Police received a 911 call at 1:11 a.m. on Saturday March 21 from Pike at the Running Brook Condominium complex.

Pike initially reported that his condo at 700 Running Brook Road had been burglarized and attacked by an unknown male and that he shot the suspect, according to a release from Police Capt. Gregg Rector.

Police and paramedics responded and discovered an individual inside the residence who was unresponsive and had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:25 a.m.

Detectives have since discovered that Pike and the man he shot dead, 30-year-old Ryan Alexander Moore, knew each other. A police investigation showed they worked for the same company and the victim often stayed at the suspect’s house so they could ride to work together, Rector said.

Despite the 911 call, there was no unknown intruder as originally reported by Pike. They found out the 911 caller and the victim got into a fight, resulting in the homeowner fatally shooting his coworker.

Pike was taken into custody immediately after police responded and he is currently in the Jefferson County Jail. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant today, formally charging the suspect with murder. He is held on $75,000 bond.
