Applications for Board of Education seat accepted through March 21

by

With Hoover City Schools Board of Education member Paulette Pearson announcing she will not seek reappointment, Hoover City Council is accepting applications to fill the position.

According to Hoover City Clerk Margie Handley, Pearson’s current five-year term expires in 2014. Handley said Pearson told the Council in February she would not apply for another term.

Pearson’s 2009 application for appointment to the Board of Education states that she was a member of a core group of educators who started the Hoover City School System in 1988, and she implemented the system’s first college counseling program.

She was employed as guidance counselor at W.A. Berry High School (now Hoover High) from 1973 to 1988, and served as college admissions counselor for HCS from 1988 to 2003.

Terms for the five members of the HCS Board of Education members are staggered so one position comes up for reappointment each year.

Beginning Monday, March 3, the Hoover City Council will accept applications for the appointment. The application period will close on Friday, March 21 at 5 p.m. Applications are available in City Clerk Margie Handley’s office at Hoover City Hall, and they must be returned in-person.
