7th candidate applies for Hoover School Board

Sean Grehalva of Regal Circle has become the seventh person to apply for an opening on the Hoover Board of Education. 

Grehalva has lived in Hoover for six years, and is employed as an auto services support specialist at Regions Bank on Parkway Office Circle. He has a son who will soon be old enough to attend Hoover City Schools, and says a desire to play an active role in helping the city continue to provide high-quality education sparked him to seek the position.

"I have a vested interest in making sure that he attends the best schools possible, as there is no greater influence on success than a quality education," Grehalva said. "Hoover should be a model city for our state and should be ranked with national prominence. To achieve this goal, a neutral and unbiased view is essential."

Grehalva is active in the student ministry and missions work at The Church at Cahaba Bend, and says assisting youth there has given him leadership skills necessary for success on the school board. "As part of my church's student ministry, I have assisted in counseling students with issues regarding their personal, scholarly, emotional, and religious lives," he said. "As parents of a raucous 1-year-old boy, my wife and I were charter members of a young family small group at our church for exposure to other ideas and support."

Thursday, March 26 at 5 p.m. is the deadline for candidates to submit applications to the Hoover City Clerk's Office in City Hall. The Hoover City Council on April 6 will interview applicants in council chambers in a public hearing tentatively set to begin at 2 p.m. The council is expected to make a selection on April 20.

The new school board member will replace Board President Donna Frazier, who is stepping down effective June 1.
