Hoover police have arrested a 60-year-old Hoover man for possession of child pornography.

Police on Friday evening charged Richard Alan Gamble with "possession of obscene matter containing persons under 17 years of age involved in obscene acts."

Gamble was arrested at his residence in the 3700 block of Haven View Circle at 5:30 p.m. on March 20. He was booked into the Hoover City Jail and transferred shortly afterwards to the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham.

According to a release from Hoover police, on March 2 Gamble dropped off a personal computer at a local merchant for repairs. When a technician examined the device, he observed obscene images of young girls under the age of 17.

Hoover police were notified and a search warrant was obtained to examine the computer. The subsequent investigation revealed numerous images of child pornography, leading to Gamble's arrest. Gamble is a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

The child porn charge Gamble faces is a felony, according to state law. Gamble is being held on a $5,000 bond.

Hoover police say additional charges are possible. Anyone who has information about any illegal activity involving  Gamble is encouraged to contact Hoover Detective Ryan Smith at 205-739-7499
