21-year-old being treated at UAB Hospital after three-story fall

A man is being treated at UAB Hospital following a fall off his third-story balcony.

The 21-year-old man was on his balcony attempting to tighten a cable line when he fell, said Hoover Fire Department executive officer Rusty Lowe. He had non-life-threatening injuries and was conscious following the accident, but Lowe said he was transferred to UAB Hospital because of the height of the fall.

The accident happened last night at The Cliffs at Rocky Ridge off of Wisteria Place.

To prevent this sort of accident, Lowe suggested taking all possible safety precautions and calling for help with dangerous repairs.

“If you’re ever doing work that high up, make sure you’re using proper safety precautions, and there could be several,” Lowe said. “The biggest advice is to leave that work up to the professionals.”
