A 10-year-old Hoover boy was shot inside his apartment late Tuesday night by a bullet fired from an adjacent apartment, Hoover police said.

The shooting was reported about 10:30 p.m. in the 3200 building of the Warringwood Heights Apartments on Warringwood Drive, which is in the Chapel Hills area off Rocky Ridge Road, police Lt. Keith Czeskleba said in a press release.

The boy was in the living room of his apartment when the bullet came through the wall and struck him in the groin, Czeskleba said. He was treated on the scene by Hoover paramedics and was conscious and alert when he was taken to Children’s Hospital, police said.

The occupant of the apartment where the gunshot originated left the scene before police got there but later turned himself into police and was taken into custody for questioning, Czeskleba said. Detectives were still on the scene early this morning investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting and plan to release more information later today, he said.
