Deramus to address UN

On Monday morning Hoover resident Ashley Deramus, 29, will address the United Nations assembly.

Deramus has long been an advocate for individuals with Down syndrome and is currently working to launch a clothing line for women with Down syndrome.

The UN’s Division for Social Policy and Development contacted Deramus because they felt her story was a perfect example of an empowered person with a disability inkeeping with their theme this year: "Empowerment in achieving poverty eradication, full employment and decent work for all.”

Deramus will also be interviewed in the UN "Speakers' corner," a project launched to interview professionals and experts in the field of social development.

To learn more about Deraums, watch for a feature story about her in the June issue of the Hoover Sun or visit ashleyderamusfoundation.org.
