Smoothie King to open second Hoover location

The owners of the Smoothie King in Riverchase Galleria are working to put a second store somewhere along Highway 150.

Brett Lawson said he and his business partner have signed a franchise deal for five Birmingham locations, adding to the New Orleans stores they opened a few years ago. Lawson said the Galleria location, which opened in late summer, has seen good levels of business so far.

“The numbers have been pretty good and we are very encouraged with the market,” Lawson said.

They are still working to find a site for the second store. Lawson said he would like to build a stand-alone store with a drive-through lane, which he said is more popular at Smoothie Kings across the nation.

Once a location is found, he expects construction to begin prior to Christmas and to open in the first quarter of 2016. Lawson will be focusing on marketing the health benefits of his smoothies, as he said they can come with different supplements for fitness programs and some can be used as meal replacements.

“This is something a little bit different, we’re excited about it. It’s something that can help people reach their individual fitness goals," Lawson said.

In the future, Lawson said he and his partner are considering a third location along the U.S. 280 corridor. He also said the Highway 150 location will likely partner with local schools for fundraising projects once it opens.
