Occupational health company celebrates new building
Occupational Health Dynamics always celebrates the week before football season kicks off, but this year it had more to celebrate.
After moving to its new location in Hoover, Occupational Health Dynamics (OHD) invited friends, family and community members to tour the new building on Sept. 4. Marketing administrator Connie Benton said OHD usually has a lunch to celebrate the oncoming football season, but this year the celebration was repurposed.
“We just ran out of space [in Pelham],” said CEO and President Andy Coats. “We found this building in October. It was just perfect for us.”
OHD specializes in occupational health equipment, including equipment for testing the fit of respirators and equipment for testing hearing. These products are geared toward employee health and safety.
Booth Armstrong, Eastern Region Sales Manager for OHD, said the equipment is used by police departments, fire departments and industrial companies where the environment is potentially hazardous for employees.
“When we’re in front of customers, it’s all about the health and safety of employees,” Armstrong said.
Armstrong said the company follows its tagline of “Your protection is our priority” by providing a high-quality product. Fit testing is also required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Armstrong said, which means OHD is providing a product these departments and companies need.
“Our customer basis is people of service, and I like that I’m selling a product that’s really good at what it does,” Armstrong said.
The company has grown from a one-man office to its new location on John Hawkins Parkway, which houses more than 20 employees. Changes in occupational health standards and requirements, Coats said, have led to a bigger market for occupational health equipment.
Coats said he also thinks there will be more opportunities for the business to grow in the future. OHD does business internationally, but requirements for fit testing and equipment calibration is not necessarily required worldwide.
“We think that will change,” Coats said. “People over time will realize they need to protect their workers doing fit testing.”
Providing this equipment, Coats said, is a great business because it helps keep workers safe. Coats also said the industry using equipment sold by OHD is full of people he enjoys working with.
“I really love the business because you’re dealing with great people,” Coats aid. “There certainly is a need for all of our equipment to protect the workers.
