Brass Bear Antiques and Flea Mall will open soon at 2656 Valleydale Road in a long-vacant location that once housed Piggly Wiggly and Big B Drugs. The store will have more than 30,000 square feet of antiques, furniture and much more.

Alabama Credit Union has purchased the building currently occupied by First Financial Bank at 1604 Montgomery Highway and plans to open in early 2015. This will be the second Birmingham-area location for the Tuscaloosa-based credit union.

ProctorU, a company specializing in proctoring of online tests for colleges and universities, has moved to a new space at 2200 Riverchase Center. Their new space is nearly three times as large as the space they previously occupied.

The Model Box, 1921 Hoover Court, has reopened following a fire that damaged the store in June. The store offers a wide range of items for hobbyists including radio-controlled cars, boats, airplanes and helicopters.

New Ownership

Hyatt Place, 4686 Highway 280 in Inverness, has been acquired by Lone Star Funds from Hyatt Corporation as part of a larger $590 million purchase. The hotel will undergo extensive renovations and will retain the Hyatt Place name and brand.
