Hoover financial entrepreneur Named to NFIB National Board of Directors

Greg Powell, president and CEO of fi-Plan Partners, has been appointed to a seat on the National Federation of Independent Business' 15-member national Board of Directors.

NFIB is the nation's leading small-business association, with about 350,000 dues-paying members nationwide, including more than 7,000 in Alabama. Powell has been active in NFIB for years. As a member of the NFIB Board of Directors, Powell will assist in devising strategies to support small, independent businesses across the country.

"We believe in NFIB's mission, and I really appreciate this opportunity to serve on NFIB's national board," Powell said. fi-Plan Partners, based on Feldspar Way near the Hoover Met, is an investment firm specializing in financial planning, wealth management and business consulting with securities and advisory services offered through LPL Financial, a registered investment advisor.

Unlike other business organizations, NFIB's Board of Directors advises but does not determine its agenda on state or federal issue. NFIB's public-policy positions are based solely on the results of its state and federal member ballots, which ask members for their opinions on key legislative issues. NFIB board members serve three-year terms and can serve a maximum of three terms.

"Greg's experience, passion and obvious skill at steering an organization to success uniquely qualifies him to advise NFIB on how best to serve our members," said Dan Danner, president and chief executive of NFIB. "We're proud and excited to welcome him to our national board of directors, but even more proud to count him among our members."

Powell has more than 30 years of experience in the financial investment industry. He was NFIB/Alabama's Small Business Champion of the Year and NFIB's South Region Small Business Champion in 2009. Powell is a past chairman of the NFIB/Alabama Leadership Council and serves on the board of the Business Council of Alabama.

A graduate of Samford University, Powell serves on the Samford Board of Overseers, and the Samford Brock School of Business Board of Advisors. In 2009, he was named to the Alabama Commission on Improving State Government.
