Just in case driving 190 mph around the Talladega Superspeedway isn’t enough of a rush, a Hoover bakery gave NASCAR driver Kyle Busch an extra kick Sunday morning.

Emily Forsythe of Louise’s Cakes N’ Things in Hoover presented Busch, who sometimes drives a car with Skittles as the primary sponsor, with the “world’s largest Skittles cake” before the GEICO 500 on Sunday.

The six-tier cake was covered with more than 6,000 Skittles in honor of Busch’s 31st birthday, which was the next day.

Emily Forsythe, the owner of Louise’s Cakes N’ Things, said Skittles hired her bakery to create the cake.

“We had never done something like that before,” Forsythe said. “We’ve never had anyone ask us to cover a cake in Skittles.”

The company sent the bakery three cases of Skittles — “all in those little bags that you would buy at a grocery store,” Forsythe said.

Bakery staff spent well more than 40 hours sorting the Skittles by color to make the cake and baking the cake itself, she said.

Forsythe went to Talladega to present the cake in person. “It was a fun day,” she said.

Busch finished second in the GEICO 500 on Sunday.
