Chamber of commerce holds job fair, business expo

by

The Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its first job fair and business expo this week.

The event is June 19 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

“We’re hoping to do more for the community, more for the businesses,” said Verona Petite, executive assistant to the director for the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce. “And I will stress this is not just for chamber members.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to interview on the spot at the job fair, so Petite said it is important to dress ready to interview and bring along an up-to-date resume. There will also be three 45-minute workshops on resume building, networking and during the day. The business expo will allow participating businesses to show off new products.

Participating companies and chamber members will donate door prizes, which will be handed out every 30 minutes.

There will also be free health screenings provided by Ginsburg Dermatology, HeartSouth Cardiovascular Group, Therapy South and Sports Medicine, American Family Care, St. Vincent’s Health System and Magic City Chiropractic.

“It’s really a community effort here,” Petite said. “We’ve got a lot of great volunteers that will also be helping throughout the day.”
