Wade Streeter breaks away from Tuscaloosa County defenders in last week's Jaguars 24-0 win over the Wlldcats.
Spain Park will travel to Trussville to take on the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies on Friday at 7 p.m. in a early but meaningful region game.
The Jaguars are coming off a 24-0 win over Tuscaloosa County and enter the Class 7A, Region 3 matchup with Hewitt with a 3-1 overall mark and 2-0 in the region. The Huskies await with the same exact record. At this juncture, the two teams are tied with Hoover for first place in the region. Vestavia Hills and Thompson are tied for the fourth spot at 1-1.
The Jaguars and Huskies go about things a little differently. The Jaguars rely on defense and a punishing running game, led by Wade Streeter and Larry Wooden. The Huskies are built for speed, running the up-tempo attack favored by their coach, Gus Malzahn disciple Josh Floyd. Quarterback Zac Thomas leads the way, keeping or handing off to Jarrion Street, an Ole Miss commitment.
The Huskies’ only loss was at Tennessee’s Montgomery Bell in the opener. The Jaguars have also won three straight after losing at Austin.
Both teams are outside the ASWA Class 7A Top 10, but each received votes from the panel this week. The Huskies picked up 12 points while the Jags got seven votes.
Kickoff at Husky Stadium is 7 p.m.
