The 33rd annual Juanita Boddie Volleyball Tournament, essentially the kickoff to the prep volleyball season, will be held Friday and Saturday at Hoover High School.
Class 7A No. 1 Mountain Brook, the defending state champion, and No. 2 Hoover, last year's runner-up, are the favorites, but it's a loaded field.
Spain Park, Oak Mountain, Vestavia Hills, Chelsea and John Carroll Catholic are among the top metro teams in the field. Grissom and Bob Jones, two Huntsville-area powerhouses, are in the field as are schools from Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.
Pool play begins Friday at 5 p.m. and continues Saturday morning at 9. Around 1 p.m. Saturday, the teams move into the Gold (winners) Bracket and the Silver (consolation) Bracket. Play will be in the competition gym, the PE gym and the all-purpose gym.
