U.S. Marshals and Hoover PD have captured the male suspect in an armed robbery from Oct. 16.
Around 4:32 a.m. that Saturday, a man entered the CVS on Chace Drive armed with a shotgun and robbed a store employee of cash from the register and attempted to force the employee to open the safe, according to police. The employee refused and wrestled the gun away from the suspect, but during the struggle the employee was shot in the leg.
Around 8 a.m. on Nov. 4, U.S. Marshals and Hoover Police captured the suspect, identified as Birmingham resident Andre Demario Billups, 25. Billups was taken into custody at a home in Tarrant and has been transferred to Hoover City Jail. He will be transferred to Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham later today.
Billups was charged with first degree robbery, and his bond is set at $30,000. His arrest is the second made in connection to this case. On Oct. 17, police arrested 27-year-old Jamese Jivonne Gregory, who worked at the CVS and is Billups’ girlfriend, according to police.
Gregory was identified after a surveillance photo led investigators to believe a female employee of the CVS had helped plan the crime. She was also charged with first degree robbery and has posted bond and been released from jail.
“This case was a great example of the power of law enforcement working with the public and the media,” said Capt. Gregg Rector. “Our surveillance photo produced some really good tips that led us to the female employee and her gunman boyfriend. We’ve been looking for the male suspect for the past two weeks and he has refused to cooperate and surrender. We asked our partners at the U.S. Marshals to assist us a few days ago and they always get their man. Solving this crime was certainly a priority for us and we were very confident it was going to end with success.”
