Hoover police have canceled the suspicious person alert issued in the Scout Creek section of the Trace Crossings community on Friday, Nov. 27.
The alert was issued after two boys, ages 10 and 12, said a man parked on Scout Ridge Drive motioned to them and told them to "get in" his car Friday around 9:20 a.m. The boys ignored him, rode away on their bicycles and notified their parents.
Hoover police officers located and interviewed the man who was in the car reported on Friday morning. Detectives said at this point, they do not believe there was any criminal act or malicious intentions on his part.
Capt. Gregg Rector said there were several kids riding their bikes that morning and police believe the driver stopped to allow them to cross the street.
"The driver motioned with his hand for the boys to cross the street," Rector said. "We now believe the hand motion was likely misinterpreted by the boys. We don’t believe there were any ill intentions on the part of the driver of the Audi."
